Don’t Tell Me What I Can’t Do

We all go through lots of success or failures in our life, be it personal or professional life. How do we accept those success or failures? Will you accept both in the same way or will you let the success go to your head and failure to your heart? We might accept success in the right spirits as we should but the same may not be said when we have gone through some gut-wrenching failures.

I have always tried to take both success and failures in my stride. Although I have experienced failures a lot more than success in my life but I have learnt to enjoy both in the same spirits. Its not that I do not succeed always but I have learnt to deal with failures a lot better. I never get bogged down by my failures nor let the success get to my head.

Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

But what if you are going through a lot of adversities, devastation after devastation and one gut-wrenching failure after another? None of these adversities are self-inflicted but you are being severely tested, you are made to fight for every breath you take. How would you handle such situations? Will you just accept it as your fate and live with it or would you do anything to change it? Do you have the courage and the strength to stand up and fight for it?

I am constantly asking such questions to myself more so in the recent past but the answers I am giving myself aren’t very encouraging. I am still fighting for every breath I take; I still keep telling myself there is absolutely nothing in the world I cannot achieve but there is also fear, not the fear of failing but the fear of not trying, hard enough. I feel like I am still holding back for some reason, also due to my present circumstances I feel like I am forced to hold back. And that is not the right place to be in for me at this moment. Every breath I am taking now is a constant battle to break those shackles.

At the same time I ask myself whether my constant health issues have done more damage than I credit them for. I always keep telling myself that nothing can break me but the core of my entire self may already be irreversibly damaged. But I won’t let those demons in my head get the better of me, no not this time, not anytime.

As the cliché goes, I will rise from the ashes like a phoenix and there is absolutely nothing in the world that can stop me. I have gone though many adversities in the past and I have fought back valiantly every time. I might have lost many times but I have never lost hope.

I will not lose hope now; I will fight back, as always. I will regain my faith and I will come out of this phase a stronger, tougher and a much more determined person. I will come out of this phase a winner.

If anyone feels otherwise, I just have one thing to tell them:

DON’T TELL ME WHAT I CAN’T DO.

No matter how many times you fail, you just need to keep trying. It matters how you are going to finish, are you going to finish strong?

  1. That quote from Emerson is a gem and one I cherish among others and I am sure, is quite close to your heart too. Hang on, Boy! That light at the end of the tunnel is real. Make sure, you never stop trying your hardest. And if Nick Vujicic could make it, you are hugely better endowed than him.

  7. Akshay, I am not sure I am big enough to tell you" keep it up" /"Keep going" "you are doing great".
You are reaching beyond many of us, who cower at the thought of failure, at the time of failure and behave as if the world has fallen on their shoulders.

You are achieving great courage and conviction.
Your belief will carry you forward. God's blessings are with you.

    1. Thank you so much Raj for your amazing comments, always inspires me to carry on. I try my best to stay strong and positive in the face of adversity but I don't think I am big enough to accept your kind words. There are people who face much worse and are way stronger than I could ever be so I am nothing before them. :)

  9. Great links. Great post. I have come to see my adversities as my greatest teacher. Not everyone is fortunate enough to experience the kind of health karma that you have. Your spirit in the face of your circumstances is proof of your victory, and is an inspiration to all of us. Your last couple of posts have been a great source of strength for me.

  14. Hi Akshay, I know its easier to advise than follow but one teeny weeny thing I'd like to say which I felt immediately on reading your post....In order to be positive one should stop clinging to the negative things around...Your present circumstances, your health conditions etc...The more you concentrate on overcoming, the bigger the problem may seem...Forget about all those, decide what is your final goal and see only that...A phoenix You definitely are but dont keep looking at the fire but at the sky...Dunno if I made any sense at all...Good Luck in all you do and may you come out with great success :D And its hard but try to be happy and keep smiling :) And its a great thing that instead of brooding you want to overcome all difficulties and move forward.Kudos to that :)

    1. I agree with your perspective Jayashree, I have said in my post that my health issues may have done more damage to me (physically not mentally) than I give them credit for. That means I have tried not to think about my health issue as a problem, have tried to fight it out. But I can't deny that it has affected me to a certain extent. I guess as you said it correctly, the more I concentrate on overcoming, the bigger the problem it may seem. I shall definitely consider your thoughtful advises and try to work on them and make myself better. :)Thank you so much again. :)

  16. You are right..people always tell you what you can't do, they always laugh at you when you try to do something they cant do, it is only because they are scared..they are scared that you'll succeed and they'll be there, wherever they are...yes, you are having a very hard time, and I can't even tell you that I understand bcos I can't, I'm not where you are..But all I will say is, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger..its true..really..not bcos of the song :P
